Umba Peter shares in his personal story that he once led young men to inflict pain on women thought of as witches or sorcerers. He had no hesitations as women were being accused in his community. His turning point came when he witnessed his own aunt being accused and tortured, in front of his eyes. At the time, his mother stepped in and saved her sister. Umba later learnt about human rights and joined Kafe Women’s Association in Goroka in the Eastern Highlands Province. He now works as a male advocator speaking out about the impact of sorcery accusations and advocating for the value of human life. |
