Roselyn Erick remembers her experiences as a child visiting her grandfather when on holiday. She remembers rumours about her grandfather being a sorcerer who is said to kill people. She remembers feeling scared and isolated. Today, she is a case worker for Kafe Women’s Association in Goroka and she deals with many sorcery accusations. She reflects on the power dynamics of accusations and how sorcery accusations might start in communities. Roselyn is particularly concerned that accusations are often targeted towards single mothers or vulnerable people in the community. Taking initiative, she is active in stopping anyone in her community instigating gossip about sorcerers, to reduce any fear and potential violence.
