John Kaiglo’s story explores his experiences of sorcery accusations within his family. His uncle was killed as a result of being accused of having caused the death of a child through sorcery. John sought justice for his family through the court system to arrest the perpetrators and clear the tag of ‘sanguma’ (sorcerers) given to his family. Many cases of sorcery accusation related violence in Papua New Guinea are often not dealt with effectively within the court system. John’s story demonstrates how one individual through perseverance and persistence can utilise the court system to seek justice and the need to the importance of condemning any forms of violence. |
