Anna Daniel is from Good Enough Island from Milne Bay Province in Papua New Guinea. In her story Anna remembers her grandfather being regarded as a great sorcerer. Her family carry this legacy, and her family is often regarded as responsible for the deaths of many in the community. Although Christianity has a strong presence in her community, sorcery beliefs and accusations remained in particular towards her family. This went as far as Anna feeling unsafe in her own community, so she left. While staying in town and staying at Kedu Seif Haus, Anna learnt about human rights laws. She obtained some materials and eventually went back to her community and discussed the issue with the local magistrate. Today she is not afraid anymore and is very active undertaking awareness with communities in her area. |
